[Need a picture of Gig Harbor here....] Trip Description Gig Harbor is our home. Most club members have paddled 'the Harbor" tens of times. What makes Gig Harbor a great paddle is the natural protection of the harbor itself against tide, currents, and weather. There is much to do in the Harbor: play among the many pleasure and fishing boats moored in Gig Harbor; paddle to the Crescent Creek entrance on a high tide; paddle to the Tides for lunch; or exit the harbor to paddle the waves of Puget Sound. Most of us exit the Harbor, then examine the tide flow: on the flood -- we paddle north toward Sunshine Beach until tired, then turn and ride the current back into the Harbor; or on the ebb -- we reverse this process paddling south toward Point Evans and the Narrows Bridge. Trip Leader Mik Mikitik (kayak@clearlight.com ), owner of the Gig Harbor Kayak Center, spends much kayak time in the Harbor given kayak lessons. He probably knows as much about the Harbor than anybody. Directions Take I-5 and Highway 16 over the Narrows bridge. Take the second Gig Harbor exit; continue straight through the signal and down Stinson; turn left onto Harborview; follow Harborview Dr to the right all the way to 96th; turn right onto 96th; turn right onto Randall; follow it to the Boat Launch at the end of the road. Currents & Tides & Weather Gig Harbor is our shelter from the storm. When we a concerned about conditions at other paddle sites, we think of the Harbor. You don't have to worry about tide, current, or weather to paddle Gig Harbor. Map Click below to review the "topo map" that we prepared for the 1999 Washington Water Trails Association Annual Meeting last March. [Caution: These topographic maps are large files -- they can take up to xxx minutes to load using a 56KB modem.]
