"we TRY to paddle all year round"

December  2006

Saturday December 9th --  Boat Parade Paddle.  Meet at the Gig Harbor Boat Launch at 5:00PM.  Be sure to bring boat lights and dress warm.  If you want to do Christmas lights, go for it.  Jenny Berlin 253-851-2968 will be our leader.

[No Christmas Carol Paddle this year...sorry.]

January 2007

Monday January 1st -- New Years Day Paddle.  Meet at the Gig Harbor Park n' Ride at 9:00AM.  We will drive to American Lake boat launch for the paddle -- we should be there by 10:00AM.  You might want to bring a snack or lunch.  Rain will cancel.  leader is Jim Davis 253-759-5616 (Jim hates rain).

Sunday January 21st --  Easy Paddle.  meet at the Gig harbor boat Launch at 10:30AM.  Jenny will lead 253-851-2968.

February 2007

Saturday February 3rd -- Nisqually Delta.  We will launch from the boat ramp on the East side (better directions to follow) -- meet at 10:30 am meeting time, and launching at 11:00 am.  That should be just about low tide, but will be no problem to launch.  Bring your lunch and hot drinks!  If it is like other times, you will be in for a treat.  We usually see lots of birds and we may even see seals (some call them Sea Lions) up close.  The plan is to paddle up Nisqually River a ways before returning.
Call Eric Bensch cell, 253.617.9682 or email at eric4220@gmail.com.  Be sure to let me know that you plan to come.

Saturday February 24th -- Olalla Paddle.  Meet at the Olalla boat launch at 9:00AM.  Jim will lead this paddle 253-759-5616.

March 2007

Sunday March 4th -- Seattle Arboretum Paddle.  Meet at the Gig Harbor Park n' Ride at 8:30AM.  We'll drive to the boat launch on Lake Union -- should be there about 9:30AM.  We'll probably stop at Ivar's for lunch on the way back.  Jim Davis will lead 253-759-5616.

Saturday March 24th -- Browns Point Paddle.  Meet at Brown's Point Community Center at 9:00AM.  Hoping Jerry will lead this one -- stay tuned.

April 2007

Sunday April 8th --  Gig Harbor Paddle.  Meet at the Gig Harbor boat launch at 9:00AM.  Hoping Pete will lead this one -- stay tuned.

Saturday & Sunday April 28th & 29th -- Fort Flagler Multi-Sport Camping Trip.  Meet at the Gig Harbor park n' Ride at 8:00AM on Saturday morning.  We will drive to Fort Flagler for 'car camping'.  This will allow us to bring traps and stuff -- just in case it is a rainy weekend.  Bring your kayak, bikes and hiking boots -- we plan to do it all.  We'll head back home about 2:00PM on Sunday.  Jim Davis will lead 253 759-5616.

May 2007

Saturday May 5th -- Ketron Island Paddle.  Jim Davis 253 759-5616 will lead.  We will meet at Steilacoom Boat Launch at 2:30PM.

Saturday, Sunday & Monday May 26th, 27th & 28th -- Hope Island Camping Trip.  Meet at the Gig Harbor Park n' Ride at 8:30AM Saturday morning.  We'll drive to Arcadia.  Hope Island is a great little State Park.  We'll decide on our paddling plans once we get there.  Jim Davis will lead 253-759-5616.

June 2007

Sunday June 3rd - Foss Waterway Paddle.  Meet at Thea Foss Park at 10:00AM.  Hoping Rich will lead -- stay tuned.

Saturday June 23rd -- Dash Point Paddle.  Meet at Dash Point Park (not the State Park).  The paddle will start at  10:30AM.  Might want to ring a snack or lunch.  Hoping Jerry will lead -- stay tuned.

Club Goals

The purposes of the Gig Harbor Kayak Club are:

To promote kayaking and kayak safety among club members, as well as within the community;

To enable the members to enjoy kayaking with other kayak enthusiasts;

To coordinate a calendar of kayak trips and events;

To maintain a club roster of members so members can use it to contact other members, and a roster of other related kayak organizations members can reference; and

To promote and support club and community social and civic events where human-powered water craft are featured.

Club Paddles

The Club schedules regular paddles throughout the Puget Sound area, and all skill levels are welcome. The Club is always concerned with personal safety while on the water, looks out for one another, and continually helps members be "water safe."  The schedule of Club paddles is published in the newsletter.

Club Newsletter

The Club newsletter is no longer being published; for back issues, click on the "Newsletter" link.

Club Social Events

Social activities include weekend camping trips, pot-lucks special presentations, participation in Gig Harbor’s parade, Christmas caroling, and of course paddling with friends.

Club Meetings

The Club has a monthly business meeting open to all members (held at 7:30 the first Wednesday of each month at the Gig Harbor Kayak Center), and social   meetings which are a combined potluck/program/meeting. We have two or three social meetings during the year.

Member Benefits

We are very proud of our club.  There are many reasons why you might want to join --  see our  "membership" page:

Meeting new friends and "paddle buddies"

A consistent schedule of organized paddles for planning

Visiting new places in Puget Sound and beyond

The club newsletter mailed to your home

Access to the club’s membership roster for addresses/phones

A way to participate in the Gig Harbor community, with opportunities to give something back to the community.
